Why does hinge gauge decide whether a door drops?

The hinges here are 2.0mm. Gauge matters more than finish on a door that gets used constantly — a thin hinge on a heavy leaf works loose, the door drops, and the lock stops engaging cleanly. When a customer returns complaining the lock has failed, the hinges are worth checking first.

Why sell the closer with the lockset?

Door closers are supplied 10 sets per carton and are the natural attachment to an entrance handle lock sale for shop, office and institutional doors. Where a door is on a fire-rated opening, confirm the requirement with us in writing before quoting.

What types of door closer are there?

TypeBest forNotes
Standard overhead closerOffices, homes, back doors Self-closes every time; two-speed adjustment is the feature worth insisting on
Hold-open (auto-hold) closerShop fronts, stores, kitchens Holds at a set angle (90° on the A-Class D-71H), releases on a push; never on fire doors
Heavy-duty closerSolid timber, metal and wide doors, 65 kg+ Bigger spring and body; undersizing is the most common buying mistake
Back-check / delay-actionHospitals, schools, windy openings Back-check stops the door being flung open; delay gives slow-moving users time
Fire-rated tierDesignated fire doors Must match the door's certification — see the fire-door question below
Floor springGlass and double-action doors A different product installed in the floor; usually contractor work

What size door closer do I need?

Duty rating is about the door, not the building. The European EN 1154 sizing convention is the working rule the trade uses:

Door weightDoor widthWhat to fit
Up to ~40 kgUp to ~850 mmLight-duty closer
40–60 kgUp to ~950 mmMedium-duty closer
60–80 kgUp to ~1,100 mmHeavy-duty closer
Over 80 kg or exposed to windWider than 1,100 mm Heavy-duty, top of the range — and consider back-check

Between two classes, size up. An undersized closer never controls the door, wears quickly, and gets blamed on the brand; an oversized one just makes the door slightly heavier to push. For shops: ask the customer the door material and width before recommending a unit — it is the one question that prevents most returns.

Which door closer for which door?

Two models cover the range. The D-71H has an auto-hold system that holds the door at 90°, two-speed closing adjustment and adjustable arms — the specification for shop fronts, offices and any door that must prop open for traffic. The D-061 is the standard self-closing unit with the same two-speed adjustment and adjustable arms. Both are ISO 9001:2000-certified manufacture and ship 10 sets per carton.

CodeFunctionAdjustmentNotes
D-71HAuto-hold at 90° + self-close Two-speed, adjustable arms Silver; the specification for shop fronts and doors that prop open for traffic
D-061Standard self-closing Two-speed, adjustable arms The everyday unit for offices and homes

Two-speed adjustment matters more than it sounds: the closing valve controls the main swing and the latching valve the final snap, so the same unit can be set gentle for a bedroom or positive for an air-conditioned office door.

What is a hold-open door closer?

A closer that can hold the door open at a set angle — on the A-Class D-71H, an auto-hold system at 90° — and releases to self-close when pushed on. It is the right specification for shop fronts, offices and kitchen or store doors with trolley and stock traffic. Note: hold-open closers must never be fitted to designated fire doors, which are required to self-close.

Why does a door slam, and can it be adjusted?

Almost every overhead closer has two adjustment valves: closing speed for the main swing, and latching speed for the final snap shut. A slamming door usually means the latching valve is open too far — a quarter-turn with an Allen key or screwdriver is often the whole fix. If adjustment does nothing and there is oil residue on the body, the seal has failed and the unit needs replacing; the oil is the mechanism.

Can a door closer be installed without a contractor?

A standard overhead closer is a realistic job on a timber door: the carton includes a paper drilling template, and the work is four screws in the door and four in the frame, then speed adjustment. Metal doors and floor springs are contractor work. The most common mistake is mounting the arm at the wrong projection so the door cannot open fully — follow the template's dimension table for the opening angle you want.

Do I need a fire-rated door closer?

Only if the door itself is a designated fire door — then the closer must carry a matching certification, because a fire door only works closed. A-Class does not publish a fire rating for its closer models; if your project specifies fire-rated door hardware, ask us in writing about the model concerned and we will confirm what documentation exists rather than answer generally.

What decides door closer price?

Function and duty, more than brand. In an August 2026 retail survey of Malaysian hardware sellers, light-duty closers ran about RM90–RM110, heavy-duty (65kg+) RM106–RM140, and back-check, delay-action or fire-rated units RM148–RM250 — hold-open capability, speed-adjustment range, arm type and door-weight rating set the band, and finish adds to it. Those are market retail prices, not A-Class prices: wholesale cost depends on carton quantity and trade account. WhatsApp the code (D-71H or D-061) with your quantity for a wholesale quote.
